Moret learned traditional techniques with Jean-Paul Laurens before beginning his open air painting. He exhibited at the Salon before joining Gauguin at Pont Aven. Enamored with Brittany and the coast in particular, he was inspired to paint those beautiful scenes. In his interpretation of the sea, Monet's influence on Moret can be detected. Moret exhibited primarily at the Salon des Independents.
